Magically
transformed into four white swans by a jealous stepmother, the children
of the ancient Irish King Lir were banished to spend 300 years on Lake
Derravaragh, 300 years on the Sea of Moyle and 300 years on Inis Glora.
However, the queen left with their human voices and people came from miles
around to hear the beautiful singing of the swans.
When
the spell was finally lifted, the Children found themselves old and frail,
with death close at hand. Their final wish was that they be baptised and
buried as they had sheltered during their years of resting at the bosom
of Fionnaula, with Fiacra and Conn on either side within her embrace.
This haunting legend has been
a powerful inspiration to us in the transformation of gold and silver into
the beautiful spellbound pieces found in our Children of Lir Collection.
Irish artist and sculptress, Elena
Brennan, has designed this unique range of jewellery exclusively for TJH.
Each piece is individually handcrafted in Ireland.
